2009
In the years leading up to their big 2009 release, [studio redacted] toyed with making a kid-friendly wave shooter with the massive critical and commercial success of games like Halo and Call of Duty.
This unnamed, unreleased prototype from the late 2000s presented a concept that was meant to open the first-person shooter genre to an even younger crowd. This concept was shut down internally, and [studio redacted] recycled assets to make [redacted game title]. Many of the developers who had worked on this prototype moved on to Treyarch and were in leadership positions for the development of World at War, where the Zombies game mode was first introduced. Many video game historians contemplate whether [studio redacted]'s untitled kid-friendly shoot-em-up was where that concept was born.
